The Child/Adolescent School is a K-12 residential school program that serves students while they reside in Terrell ISD. The mission of the school is to address the needs of the whole child. Working closely with the treatment team, the faculty and staff create an environment to continue academic growth and support each student’s treatment plan and emotional growth. A balance between treatment goals and academic goals is maintained in order for each child to understand himself/herself and to develop their full potential.

Each student has an Individual Educational Plan to meet his/her academic goals. Home schools are contacted for all students to obtain their academic program. Communication with our secondary students’ home school ensures consistent progress on their graduation plan. As a Terrell ISD school we follow the district’s calendar of activities. This includes a grading period each 6 weeks. (The calendar is located on the district home page.)

Our academic programs are designed to develop critical thinking skills that include developing ideas in response to divergent perspectives, using evidence and reason to support opinions and conclusions, and to extend and apply ideas in personal reflection and creative projects. We also work to actively involve the student in the learning process and help students learn to make sound decisions. Students are encouraged to participate in the academic discussions to develop strong communication and listening skill, including listening to others viewpoint. A continuous approach and cycle between the family, treatment team, home school and our school ensures the needs of the whole child are met and developed.
